In addition to our Library, you can learn more at these websites, which provide information for those wanting to learn more about estate planning topics.

Barron Publishing offers the book, "Estate Planning Success for Ohio Residents," the best concise, readable, and Ohio-specific guide to estate planning for non-professionals that Ruth has found. www.barronpublishing.com

The Ohio State Bar Association also offers a wealth of information about estate planning (and other) topics for Ohio residents. Under Resources, you will find "The Law & You," "LawFacts Pamphlets," and "Law You Can Use." (The most relevant of the latter topics are reproduced here under Library.)

The American Bar Association provides "Estate Planning FAQs" on its website. Although this website is for a national audience and was last updated in March 2005, its information is of a general nature and, therefore, worth reading. The material is organized by topic and is keyword-searchable.

The Internal Revenue Service posts its publications on many income, estate, and gift topics on its website. While a keyword search can require some ingenuity to get the answer to a specific question, it is quite user-friendly when seeking a publication for general information. For example, a search for "Roth IRA" will quickly find several IRS publications that are very helpful in describing, in clear terms, the applicable contribution, conversion, and distribution rules.

You can check out a charitable organization before donating to it by using GuideStar, a non-profit organization. Its website provides this description: "GuideStar is the leader in providing comprehensive data on more that 1.5 million non-profit organizations, connecting them with donors, foundations, businesses, and governing agencies in a nationwide community of giving." Basic searches are free and can be done without registering. Users who want more detailed information can purchase membership at various levels.

If you want a bit more detail about a particular tax issue, you can find the Internal Revenue Code, federal tax regulations, and similar resources at Tax Almanac. A "wiki" type website designed for tax professionals, this is one of the few (if only) free on-line sites where one can find a current version of the Internal Revenue Code. The site also has user-authored technical articles.
